Safety with online dating
There is a lot to be said about online dating, whether you are a fan or not, but one thing is certainly true and that is that a lot of people have met the love of their life on a online dating service. A few scare stories in the media should not in any way put you off the idea of online dating.
For many people this type of dating is somewhat easier than blind dates or other dating scenarios that they may encounter. For one, the opportunity to get to know someone without having to talk to them face to face is easier for those that are shy or have just been out of the dating scene for a little while. One of the first safety aspects that you should bear in mind at this point is that the person that you are talking to may not be all that seem to be.
One of the most exciting things about online dating is the fact that you can be whoever it is that you want to be. For those that are shy or unable for whatever reason to talk with people of the opposite sex, it gives them the chance to be flirtatious and bubbly but this can be taken to the extreme.
You do not know who you are pairing yourself up with, the photo may suggest that they are an attractive individual with an “about me” section that has you doubling up with laughter but when you meet them face to face they could be nothing like this at all.
Remember that if you can appear to be a completely different person, then so can the people that you are talking to on the online dating website and this can lead to some rather dangerous situations so never, ever under any circumstances give personal information about yourself to the people that you are talking with.
The same kind of rules apply to physically meeting someone that you have met through online dating and this applies to both the male and the female participants that are looking for love.
Never ask the other person to meet you at your own home, place of work or any place that you are associated with or often frequent. If you do not like the person that you are meeting with and you do not wish to see them again, they can easily turn up unexpectedly at your home or place if work if you have let them have this kind of information. So for the sake of your well being and their feelings, a neutral meeting place is the best option.
There are some awfully strange people in the world and for the sake of your own safety, always remember to tell someone that you are meeting with someone from the online dating site.
Give this friend or relative the exact location, a time to call you so that you can let them know you are OK and make sure that someone knows and agrees that you will be home at a certain time. The scare stories that you hear in the media are there to be learnt from so the more public the meeting and the more people that know, the better.
If you follow these common sense rules there is no reason that you should not enjoy the date and possibly find the person of your dreams.
